Rooster Home and Hardware in Dallas

I am an organic vegetable and flower gardener, and Rooster True Value Hardware is one of my go-to places for my supplies. They stock numerous organic supplements and fertilizers. But, as the name suggests, this is a hardware store. They have tools, and they have regular hardware, as you would expect, but they even sell chickens and, yes, roosters. They almost always have a supply of organically grown flowers, herbs, and vegetables for us to peruse to take home and plant. I usually go for the supplements and take some plants home with me. I drive all the way from Rockwall into Dallas to shop at Rooster. I enjoy my time there exploring, and I think you will too.

There aren’t a lot of stores like this left. It reminds me of hardware stores I went to as a kid in Oak Cliff, although it has more of a selection. Everything from paint and chicken supplies to toys and general gifts. And a friendly staff. Highly recommend supporting this local business.

Rooster is one of those old-school home and hardware shops that still actually cares about the projects its customers are trying to achieve. All of the staff is incredibly friendly, the prices are fair, and the selection is huge. If you don't know what you're looking for or exactly what you need, not only will the staff help you in whatever way they can, they typically are very well versed in a multitude of projects, and can speak out of kindness, and experience. No, you wont get the giant store prices, but when the staff save you from having to come back dozens of times for stuff you neglected to buy on your first pass through, it'll end up saving you money and headache in the long run.

Plus the store itself is always super clean, and had a lot of fun, quirky stuff in it that can keep the kids entertained while you shop. As well, if it has to do with bees, or chicken raising, they probably have it as well. Be sure to stop by and say hello to their actual, living rooster who resides in the middle of the store.

This is our favorite place to buy chicks! They get new breeds in weekly. It's always a treat to visit, and the gentleman who helped us was so kind with our kids!

I bought a Red Ryder BB gun for my son’s birthday, but I jammed after a few uses. After watching numerous YouTube videos and contacting the manufacturer, they advised me to return the gun due to a manufacturing issue. I called Rooster, and without any hesitation, they accepted the faulty gun and replaced it with a new one. The staff is so wonderful, I appreciate their great service and kindness! My son is the most happy 😊

The staff is very nice and they sell an array of items for your home and outdoor space. The store is very clean and organized. You also have to wear a mask before entering. They have a cooking oil recycling station nearby. You have to stop in to take a 👀.

Great store, good people and huge selection of products. Always enjoyable.

Their selection of "decorations" is much greater than their selection of hardware. I couldn't find an associate to help me despite there being several customers in the store. I had to call to get help & they were in the back room.

Bought 5 chicks from here and 3 of them died. NEVER grew, 2 died within days of bringing home. The other one passed this morning after we have been watching it and nourishing it extremely carefully. Been raising chicks for years and this is the first time I've had so many chicks die from this store. They weren't the cheap chicks either. Last time buying chicks here.

I love going to Rooster, because I know I'll probably find what I need from an adaptable plug to a duster for my fan. This place also has a bonus bargain box as you enter the store for things that I would like to try or didn't even know existed. Another thing is there's always someone there to help me find exactly what I came in there to buy. Rooster is convenient and 4 blocks from my house, plus I don't have to fight the crowds at a Lowes or that other big orange store and Let's not forget their sun screen hats that we do need in this Texas heat!

Always very helpful and friendly. They have a wide variety of inventory. There are also a lot of great gift items there, as well.

This is the place for almost anything needed for home fixes. Lots of fun gadgets and fun finds.

This was a great feed store in Dallas. Dallas doesn't have very many. I think this is actually the only one. Staff is very friendly. Stop in as Halo

This is a hardware and gift store - and chick store! In addition to lawn and home items, this store also has chicks and chicken feed available! I recently had keys made here, and they worked perfectly. Lots of parking available immediately in front of the store. One star off for customer service - The guy that made my keys wasn't friendly, but I was glad my new keys worked on the first try!

Beautiful store great employees. It is a little pricey. If you're looking for Texas items for yourself or as a gift they have a great selection. Actually you can find lots of unusual gifts. Old fashioned toys and simple puzzles, HomeGoods,. It is fun to go into the store. Has a nostalgic feel to it

they have everything. i am in 3-4 times a week. the staff has a great working knowledge of the stock.

I can always find what I need and also things I didn't know I needed until I find them!

Got some of everything especially for outdoor work (but also cleaning and other inside handy work things)

My go-to place whenever I need keys cut, they are fast and super friendly and always get the keys cut precisely right so I never have to return. Plus, I enjoy checking out the chicks and other interesting novelties they have !!

I shop here everytime I can. I just love being in this store and interacting with the staff. It gives me small town charm in the middle of Dallas. Their paint service is excellent. My kid loves the toy section and visiting with the chicks. I also shop here for many things I used to go to Lowe's and Petsmart for. I also appreciate the gardening classes and Santa that visits. Yay Rooster!

I’ve never been to a store with such nice employees. They were sweet on the phone and in person. Definitely worth the 40 min drive for me. Bought baby chicks and everything we need that bob suggested. They were knowledgeable and so nice

Small, local family feel store providing all your hardware needs. Great location in the heart of Old Lake Highlands. The staff here are so friendly and knowledgeable. Always someone there to give a helping hand and answer any questions you may have. The store is only so big as it’s not a Home Depot or Walmart, (that’s the appeal behind it) but when I go looking for an item I assume they won’t carry due to their limited space, I’m always pleasantly surprised. I always find what I am looking for here.

This is the best hardware store in Dallas. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. I go here for hardware sll the time. They have a huge selection of metric hardware, which is hard to find! Highly recommend!

I'm not a hardware store aficionado, but I really liked being in here. the aisles were super easy to navigate and there were some unexpected delights in the trip: a little house of jumping, tumbling, shrieking chicks; locally made soaps and balms; little animal themed housewares; a broad selection of gardening tools. prices were a couple dollars more than Lowe's but not bad at all.

You can find anything here. Much less trauma than going to Home Depot.

This is my go to place for random hardware in the neighborhood. They have a little bit of everything. If you need something last minute, give them a try. So far I've always been able to find a quick fix here. They have a good selection of BBQ stuff too.

The staff makes this place though. I've never had a bad experience here. Tell them what you need and they will get you to the best person. If they don't know or don't have it, they are honest.

Rooster is great when you want to get personalized help and not walk 5 miles looking for what you need :) Aside from being a great hardware store, they have homemade pralines! Can't go wrong.

I called them asking what chicks were available was told these just went on sale today and the guy listed off what they had. I said ok I will drive up making it very clear that I lived a hour away. Get here and the birds are marked for sale as of 4-2 and they would not sell any to me and expected me to come back the following day. I will never make the drive to this store again after this. The man was also very condescending and rude and did not care what so ever that I just drove a hour to this store. Didn’t apologize nor try to make the issue right at all.
